When the alarm volume is too low
Do Not Disturb and the Ring/Silent switch does not affect the alarm tone. If you toggle the Ringer/Silent switch to off or turn on Do Not Disturb, the alarm will still ring.
If the alarm doesn’t ring at all, or it rings too quietly, or your iPhone only vibrates, follow these steps:
- Adjust the volume on your iPhone. If the alarm volume is too quiet or too loud, use the volume buttons to increase or decrease the volume. You can also move the slider under Ringtones and Alerts under Settings > Sounds & Hepatics.
- If your alarm just vibrates, make sure the alarm sound isn’t set to any. Open the Clock app, tap Alarm, and then tap Edit. Tap the alarm you want, then tap Sound and choose a sound.
- When you connect headphones to your iPhone, the alarm plays at a set volume through your iPhone’s built-in speakers, as well as wired or wireless headphones and speakers.
Manually adjusting your iPhone’s time via Settings to change app behavior (e.g. timers in games) is not recommended and may affect wake times.

Use Do Not Disturb with a focus on your iPhone or iPad
With the Focus feature in IOS 15 and iPad OS 15 or later, you can use Do Not Disturb to silence calls, notifications, and notifications that you receive while your device is locked. You can also set a Do Not Disturb time period and allow calls from specific people.
When you have Do Not Disturb turned on, you’ll see a crescent moon icon in the status bar and on your lock screen.
Enable Do Not Disturb
- Go to Settings > Focus.
- Tap Do Not Disturb.
- Under “Turn on automatically,” set Do Not Disturb to turn on automatically at a specific time, place, or when using a specific app.
To turn on Do Not Disturb from Control Center:
- Open Control Center on iPhone or iPod touch, or on iPad.
- Press and hold Focus, then tap Do Not Disturb.
Change your Do Not Disturb settings
If you don’t want to be disturbed at a certain time, you can set a time period and customize other Do Not Disturb features to help you focus.
- Go to Settings > Focus.
- Tap Do Not Disturb.
- You can choose to allow or mute notifications from people and apps, connect your lock screen or home screen, set this focus to turn on automatically, and add focus filters.
If you can’t change the time or time zone on your Apple device
You can use the date and time settings to have your device automatically adjust to changes in the time zone and daylight saving time. Learn what to do if your device shows the wrong date, time, or time zone, or doesn’t automatically adjust for daylight saving time.
Check settings
After each step, check if you need further support.
On iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Make sure you have the latest version of iOS or IPad OS.
- In Settings > General > Date & Time, turn on Set Automatically 1. This will automatically set the date and time according to your time zone.
- If a message appears stating that updated time zone information is available, restart your device and any paired Apple Watch.
- Allow your device to use its current location to determine the correct time zone. To do this, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services and turn on Set Time Zone.
- Make sure your device is showing the correct time zone. To do this, tap Settings > General > Date & Time > Time Zone.
On Mac
These steps require mac OS High Sierra or later. If you are using an older mac OS version, you can set the time zone manually.
- Make sure your Mac is connected to the internet.
- Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then click Date & Time.
- If a message appears that updated time zone information is available, restart your Mac.
- If you don’t see the message, exit System Preferences, wait a few minutes, and then reopen Date & Time preferences. If you see a time zone update message at the bottom of the Time Zone pane in Date & Time preferences, restart your Mac for the update to complete.
On Apple TV
These steps require TV OS 10 or later on Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K. If you’re using an older TV OS version or an older Apple TV, you can set the time zone manually.
- Make sure your Apple TV is connected to the internet.
- Go to Settings > General > Time Zone. If you see a message that updated time zone information is available, restart your Apple TV to update.
- If the message doesn’t appear, press and holds the back button or the menu button on your Apple TV remote to go to the Home screen. Wait a few minutes and go back to Settings > General > Time Zone. If the message appears now, restart your Apple TV to run the update.
Further assistance
If your device keeps showing an incorrect date, time, or time zone 2, change each setting manually instead of selecting “Set automatically”. For example, if you have iOS 9 or earlier installed and your country, region, or government is changing the time zone or observing daylight saving time.
On iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Go to Settings > General > Date & Time.
- Disable “Set automatically”.
- Now you can change your time zone or date and time: 3
- Tap Time Zone and enter a city with the time zone you need.
- Alternatively, tap the date to change the date and time.
On Mac
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Date & Time.
- Under “Time Zone,” make sure “Set time zone automatically based on location” is deselected, then choose a time zone. You may need to click the lock to unlock these settings before you can make changes to them.
On Apple TV
- Go to Settings > General > Time Zone.
- Make sure “Set automatically” is turned off, then choose a time zone.
1. Enabling or disabling Set Automatically may not be available for all carriers or in all countries and regions. If the device has a Screen Time passcode or company profile with device restrictions installed, the option to enable or disable Set Automatically will be grayed out or grayed out.
2. If the time on your device is incorrect after syncing with your computer, the time on your computer may be incorrect. Check the time set on your computer under “System Preferences” > “Date & Time”. Here you can select the option “Set date and time automatically”.
3. It is not recommended to manually adjust the time settings to change the behavior of apps (e.g. game timers).
