Sweet potatoes – the superfood for your dog

It’s delicious, it’s orange, it’s healthy – the sweet potato. Ready to conquer your kitchen and permanently change boring food for your furry friend! In addition to its unique taste, it contains many nutrients and you can find out here why it deserves a permanent place in your furry friend’s diet.

Potato is not just potato

Jacket potatoes, fried potatoes, sweet potatoes – not quite! Contrary to what the name might suggest, the sweet potato has little in common with our regular potato. Both grow underground – and that’s about it.

Sweet potatoes belong to the morning glory plants that are found in tropical regions. Their tubers can grow up to 30 cm – while the garden potato is only about the size of a Chihuahua, real dachshund super tubers grow in South America. The two don’t have much in common when it comes to taste either, because the sweet potato has a fruity-sweet note.

What makes the sweet potato so healthy for your four-legged friend?

The American health authority recently declared the sweet potato to be the healthiest vegetable. With a starting value of 100, the normal potato already achieves 83. The sweet potato achieves an incredible 186 points, shines with a high content of nutrients, and is an excellent source of carbohydrates and fiber. The all-clear for the chubby ones among us: The superfood does not contain any fat at all.

Antioxidants for health

The sweet potato tuber provides your furry friend with a number of important antioxidants and proteins that fight free radicals in the body. In addition, they increase the activity of the antioxidant glutathione contained in the body to a large extent, which is particularly important for keeping the organism healthy.

Antioxidants also have a supporting effect against cell damage – current research shows that they can actively fight against cancer cells.

Full power against diabetes

If your four-legged friend has the pancreatic disease, then you probably know that dogs can also have problems with blood sugar levels. The substance cacao contained in the skin of the sweet potato stabilizes and demonstrably regulates the blood sugar of your furry friend and has a positive effect on cholesterol levels. So much concentrated power should not be missing in any bowl!
